How Cockroaches Enter
Adult cockroaches measure about ¾ of an inch, making them easy to spot in homes, apartments, businesses, or office buildings. Cockroaches can be accidentally introduced through eggs brought in from the grocery store, a restaurant, a second-hand piece of furniture, or even on shoes. While cockroaches prefer dark, humid areas, their presence doesn’t necessarily mean the environment is unsanitary.
They are typically found in bathrooms, kitchens, behind refrigerators, or in drains. At night, they come out to feed in pantries, on counters, or on the floor. Every 24 days or so, cockroaches lay up to 200 eggs, meaning swift action is needed by calling a professional cockroach exterminator.
It’s recommended to store all your food in sealed containers, clean up food crumbs, empty the trash daily, and rinse recyclables before putting them in the bin. Vacuuming as often as possible is also a good preventive method. You can also seal cracks and holes to prevent cockroaches from entering. In multi-unit buildings, the landlord should be notified immediately in case of an infestation to prevent it from spreading throughout the building.
